Bahamas Independence

Good morning all!
I read this from a Bahamian site this morning and asked their permission to post it:
"I had hoped to write something specifically for Independence. Somehow, I couldn't really be happy about the state of our country right now. At the same time, I didn't want to seem unpatriotic. But as I sit here tonite about to send out this e-mail, I feel the need to say "something".
And that "'something" is that we truly have a long way to go in creating a more equitable society here in The Bahamas. We are ripe with oppression in all of its forms. Countless people are enduring joblessness, extreme poverty, police brutality, sexual abuse, poor health care, inadequate education, classism, racism, imperialism, and the lists goes on. All of this in our "paradise".
Our elected leaders show little interest in addressing these issues. And in many instances, they contribute to our suffering. So, what is to be done? For those of you working in our communities. Thank you so much and continue the fight!. This new generation and those yet born need you.For those who feel the call to contribute positively to our society - use your talents, your interests, and your creativity to empower others. And someday soon we can all be truly proud to celebrate our independence.
The struggle continues!"
